late summer at the fair

guys, the wheelers are nothing if not predictable.

of course we spent a saturday in late august at the evergreen state fair.

of course we ate blackberry ice cream, and fresh scones and jam, and curly fries still dripping in oil.

of course we played games we couldn't win and rode rides we could barely ride; we painted faces and petted animals and did all those late summer fair things that we usually do.

only this time, we really did miss last year's cream puffs.

dallin chose rocky road because it's peter parker's favorite ice cream.

ball in play

caleb played in his first ever soccer game yesterday.

his coach and team are great, and they had such good effort and attitude playing in a torrential rain storm for most of the game (the kids are decidedly less bothered by the rain than the adults are).

and because he loves nothing more than to see his mama shocked, caleb scored the first of his team's two goals.

go red bacon!

and then there were none

the last little wheeler went to school.

dallin's first day of kindergarten.

he was very excited that it was finally his turn at the bus stop. first in line, first on the bus, and a first row seat. (plus, spiderman everything.)

it's so odd for me to have him all alone on the bus and at school, as his three older siblings leave earlier on different buses and go to different schools. one of our sweet neighbor girls offered to make sure he got where he needed to be once they arrived.

he had a great first day.

begin again

today marks the first day of school for these three wheelers.

summer is off to sixth grade. le middle school. she's got a lunch period with her friends, so ultimate disaster averted. excited, pumped, and ready for growing up (a little).

afton is the only one of our kids to not have a big transition this year. fifth grade, top of the school, with her same class and teacher as last year. cruisin and groovin.

bobby moved schools to be in the same program as afton. he's in the 2/3 split and she's in the 4/5. he said he was not worried about anything. which is the bobby way.

and dallin flies the coop on friday.
